I'm in. I've been meaning to ask what games people have and maybe organize Stardew Valley or Tabletop Simulator if I can get enough people together. Failing that, I there's always browser-based board games or CAH. That's usually what I play, but I'd try pretty much anything.

There is also Warzone, which as I understand it is very much inline with Talossan traditions. (It's not COD: Warzone, it's essentially Risk but better)

Alright, having re-read it, it makes significantly more sense the second time around. I think a lot of the confusion on my part is down to the fact that there at least looks to be a lot of nuance, and the re-read helped cement some of the smaller details, specifically names and the like. Also, it's not nearly as long as I thought, it looked a lot longer on my phone.

Now off to read A Nation Sundered...

Wittenberg / "Stand Tall, Talossans" but with more notes
September 17, 2020, 02:18:43 PM
I've spent the last day or so working on a rearrangement of "Stand Tall, Talossans". I'm not particularly great at arranging, and if there's anything that can be improved I love suggestions. :)

Also, there's a few things that are kinda funky in the MP3 because Musescore doesn't render the playback perfectly. They're hopefully clear in the score.

First of all, forgive me if I'm sticking my nose someplace I don't belong, given that I'm not associated with the project, nor a member of the College at all for that matter. I've got a few thoughts as one of those new citizens.

I read through it once, and I likely will have to again so I don't miss anything. It was quite eye-opening with regards to what I've missed during my time away, and it sheds a lot of light on why things are the way they are, post-Reunison.

My only concerns are that it may be information overload for those uninitiated, and I'd be cautious of scaring people away with some of the more, shall we say, unpleasant parts.

Like I said, I'm not entirely unfamiliar with Talossan history and politics, and there's still a lot that's incredibly confusing. Also, while I know that a lot of stuff happened back then, a lot of it bad, I also understand that behavior like that isn't acceptable anymore and never was in the first place. The person who discovers the Kingdom via Wikipedia might not.

I'm not going to say I don't recommend people read it. It might be worth adding a summary and a disclaimer, or something similar though.

Just my two bence.

The Webspace / Possible bug with verifying wiki accounts
September 13, 2020, 12:20:37 AM
While attempting to verify my email address on the wiki, the wiki, Wittenberg, and the talossa.com main site all went down for ~5 minutes or so, throwing a 508 "resource limit is reached" error code.

Not sure if that was purely on my end, but I figured I'd pass it on. As far as I'm aware, there's nothing out of the ordinary happening with my local network, and my connection to the wider Internet was unaffected.

Never thought I'd utter the phrase "Oh **** I broke the country", anyway...

Woo, I'm a citizen again!

Now that I can again claim citizenship in our glorious country, is there anything I can do to help out?

I was at a virtual officers retreat for my teachers union most of the day and then slept a little to recharge So I didn't get the chance to respond.

I do have some thoughts on how you can get involved in non-political work but I need a little time to formulate my thoughts more fully after a particularly long day. Don't get discouraged. I'll get back to this topic shortly.

It's much appreciated, and there's no rush.

Not wiki experience like Wikipedia, per se, though I'm very familiar with Markup and the like.

I've been a fairly seriously IT hobbyist for a long time, and in the open source world a lot of the relevant documentation and such is hosted via MediaWiki, so I've been absorbing it all for a while, and like I said I enjoy boring research (you haven't lived until you've read through the kernel.org mailing lists to get that last ounce of performance out of a Gentoo install, but I digress), so there you go

As to the other conversation happening concurrent in this thread, I'll admit I'm too lost to understand exactly what the arguments are, but it appears a lot has happened in the last decade or so. I'm sure I'll form my own opinions as time goes on.

I was wondering what the job board was for, honestly. I guess now I get to wait and see what gets posted.

One of the things I've noticed that I'd be interested in is updating the wiki. It might sound boring, but research (legal and otherwise) is something I enjoy. I've been doing some reading, and there's some things I probably could work on but I'm not 100% sure what can and can't be edited and all that, or even who I should contact.

I gotta say, at the very least, Talossan legal documents are infinitely more interesting than US ones. The US has depressingly few laws that refer to a squirrel space program or holidays about penguins.

Wittenberg / Re: Immigration Law Problems!
September 09, 2020, 11:43:36 PM
Having now actually read 47RZ46 and 53RZ22 rather than assuming they didn't exist, I now understand that there is a procedure that covers this.

My new argument (am I allowed to make arguments? I forgot to ask that before making an argument before, so I shall continue doing so now) is that potentially, El Lex 15.1 doesn't apply due to the fact that my original voluntary renunciation was not actually a renunciation, nor was it voluntary. At the time, it was very much involuntary. That said, the case could be made that by coming back and then forgetting I did so, Article X, §5 does in fact apply.

For the record, I knew this would happen. I was explaining to some friends of mine yesterday the rich history of Talossa and how I originally came upon it, and something along the lines of "there will be a 6 month court case while my situation is sorted out", and well, here we are.

That said, while I understand that this is lo longer in force, is that not the referenced Article XVIII, §10: https://wiki.talossa.com/Law:Organic_Law#Link18.10?

By my reading, that appears to have essentially been moved to Article X, §5 per 53RZ18.

That said, my argument is that at least originally, Article X, §5 either doesn't apply or shouldn't, due to my situation at the time. It turns out that I came back very briefly before (I entirely forgot that), and my status was legally in doubt then, so...

It appears there were a few clauses that could plausibly cover this specific scenario in the 1997 Organic Law, but they were removed in 2017.

(Please excuse my grammar, punctuation, etc. I was 14 and not very smart. I still am, but I was then too.)

Also this is the most fun I've had doing legal research in a very long time.

EDIT: My legal research took too long. Drat.
