This is not surprising. At the time of the Budget on the Second Clark, you may have noticed that there was no financial report from the Burgermeister. At the time, Istefan commented that he was prevented from completing his statutory duty in this regard due to "overwhelming anxiety". Our friend is clearly not in a good place.

One of the things we have found out in Government is that, if someone is just not in a position to be able to work, there's nothing you can do apart from (a) wait for them to become available; (b) fire them. Either way, you become the subject of bad faith attacks from people who want to blame you for everything. We have also found this re: the National Database; MPF is just not in a position to fix it, so it doesn't get fixed, because we can't replace him.

Those attempting to get political mileage out of other people's apparent "failures" should take note of this dynamic.

As someone with clinical anxiety, it concerns me even more now. I hope our sitting Burgermeister is getting help and relief for what, I know from personal experience, can be a devastating and debilitating illness. But we need to investigate a replacement either permanent or acting, should it continue to be the case that our friend is not able to perform the duties of the office.

Well, let's just hold our horses.  Does anyone have him on social media?  Any number of things could be going on, like maybe he just has the flu or COVID-19 or something.

Easier said than done:
1) find someone who would do the job;
2) get the "keys" away from Istefan (i.e. the password to the national PayPal account/Treasury). I don't even think the Finance Minister has those.

I have to repeat: this is the same problem we've had with the creaky, breaking-down National Database over the last six months. I and the Secretary of State repeatedly liaised with MPF to try to repair it. But MPF has been overwhelmed with extra-Talossan affairs. He can't do the fixes himself right now. We don't have any tech guys with the chops to simply take it over. So we have to wait until something changes.

This is of course precisely why, for ages, I have re-iterated that the Government should operate a more hands-on, supervisory role over the Civil Service. For which, we have been attacked as wannabe totalitarian dictators.

"Easier said than done" is something true of every manifesto and program presented by every political party since time immemorial.
It appears clear we haven't started looking into a replacement, permanent or acting, so I am hoping the next Government will do so.

Miestră Schivă, UrN

See, this is the problem. You're operating from a position of ignorance. You don't know how hard it is to actually make things happen in Talossa, so you assume that things aren't happening because of a lack of effort of will - and of course, if you were in power, things would just happen! Perhaps this is the fault of the current Government for not doing wanting to "shame" members of the Royal Civil Service who have dropped the ball for whatever reason.

This is shown in your attempt - from opposition - to start a financial pledge campaign, and somehow sounding disgruntled that people weren't suddenly lining up to follow your example. Also in your attempt to focus your electoral campaign into a personal attack on the member of the current Government who - while being more productive than any other individual member - had the nerve to be honest about the backstage problems. This level of bad faith is precisely why we aren't more transparent about how the sausage of Government is made.

Folks, I point to my profile signature as it might explain the past six months far better than the constant stream of excuses flowing from the bottomless maw of Miestra.

Miestră Schivă, UrN

I have been honest about the problems. I have also done more than anyone else to fix the problems. Interesting that the attacks come against the most productive member of the last Government, the one who took responsibility, rather than the people who actually did drop the ball.

There have been no "excuses". But the dehumanising rhetoric ("bottomless maw"? LOL, am I a Sarlaac?) coming from the Opposition should give anyone who thinks this is a proper person to be Seneschal pause.

Other governments have succeeded at multiple things. I mean, there's just been a basic lack of leadership here, let's be honest. You guys forgot about this PD, and no one really followed up on it until I started asking questions. It's just like a bunch of other stuff over the past year. ID cards, the Zuavs, the New Citizen Packet, social media use... A ton of this stuff has happened only because private citizens started working to supervise a do-nothing Government. I'm not sure why you're pretending like this was inevitable. You have personally made several speeches where you admit all this. It was just a couple of weeks ago when you said it plainly, yet again:

This speech is difficult for me because I have to be honest about the consequences of my decisions. I have to admit that the Government of the 56th Cosa has mostly been a failure.

That's the reason for the embarrassing attempts to try to provoke a big nasty negative campaign. The whole country has pretty much been ignoring it, but let's not pretend that we also aren't all aware of what's going on.

I love pearls. Even when they are clutched. Alright, I am going to leave this alone until we know more about what is happening with the Burgermeister and the enactment of the Ukraine PD.
