Lüc is clearly better at predicting than me this year. Hopefully the last bit of his prediction will come true as well...

2022 TMT20 #2

Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2VZjE6JdHg
Released 1980
From the album Blizzard of Ozz

First nominated by Ian Plätschisch in 2017
Previously #13 in 2017, #10 in 2018, #19 in 2020, and #19 in 2021

Final Round Points - 37

By far the most divisive song in the final. It received two first-place votes and a second-place vote, but only three points from the other four voters combined. A well-deserved high finish for this staple of the bottom half of the top 20 for years, but it ultimately couldn't overcome #1...

#302
2022 TMT20 #1

The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbmS3tQJ7Os
Released 1969
From the album Let It Bleed

First nominated by Xhordan Plätschisch in 2018
Previously #14 in 2018, #3 in 2019, #1 in 2020, and #3 in 2021

Final Round Points - 41

Recieved a first-place vote, a second-place vote, and four other votes of between three and six points.

Not only does Gimme Shelter join Bohemian Rhapsody as the only songs to win the TMT20 multiple times, but it also joins Bohemian Rhapsody as the only songs to place in the Top 3 four times.

In fact, Gimme Shelter actually beats Bohemian Rhapsody when it comes to consecutive Top 3 finishes; Gimme Shelter has been in the Top 3 every year since 2019, while Bohemain Rhapsody has never managed more than two Top 3s in a row. Also note that Gimme Shelter has ranked higher than Bohemian Rhapsody every year since 2019, just one year after it was first nominated.

With Bohemian Rhapsody missing the Top 20 entirely this year, is it time to declare a new King of the TMT20?

Gimme Shelter  ;D

Well deserved winner. Actually the second time the best final song won (first time was Knights).

Many thanks for the organisation Ian!

This would have been the correct order btw:

12 - Gimme Shelter
10 - You Can't Always Get What You Want
8 - Telegraph Road
7 - The Chain
6 - Sweet Dreams
5 - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
4 - Sultans of Swing
3 - Down Under
2 - Africa
1 - On the River

A fitting winner.  I just started hearing advertising on the local AAA format FM station recently for Gimme Radio.  Gimme has no sponsors and depends exclusively on product sales, including exclusive vinyl, collectible items and enabling listeners to purchase the records which are playing at the moment

Sir Lüc

Forgot to make an end-of-tmt20 comment but there's not much to say really :) Thank you so much for organising @Ian Plätschisch

For the record, my final votes were:
12. Toto - Africa
10. Dire Straits - Telegraph Road
8. Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
7. Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing
6. Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter

Also I feel like I should gloat over my correct top 5 prediction if only because not much else has gone my way in the chatroom recently.

Also I guess a shoutout is due to a few discoveries I made: Elettrochoc, The Alien, Belgie, Sénégal Fast Food, Mork and Mindy, Black Hole Sun, Santé and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few more. Some are hidden gems, some are actual bangers, either way I still find myself replaying them now.

Thanks to the folks who nominated them :)

Second this. Definitely a very nice discovery. I should also mention Everybody Knows. Both of these got a spot in my main spotify playlist for sure.
