GROUP 3 - a mini stack for sure, didn't expect I'd like so many and I ended up being sorry I couldn't give points to more songs. That said:
3. Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
2. Stromae - Santé
1. Foghat - Slow Ride

BPs: The Alien, Birdland and How You Remind Me

GROUP 4
3. Police - Roxanne
3. Antonio Vivaldi - Gloria In Excelsis Deo
1. Beatles - Eleanor Rigby

Still vaguely dreading the inevitable mega stack later in round 1...
I assume you mean to give Gloria in Excelsis Deo two points

whoops, yep, sorry ^^

Voting for Groups 3 and 4 is closed. Eleven voters again, nice.

GROUP 3
1. Kashmir - 18
2. Everlong - 12
3. Santé - 8
4. How You Remind Me - 5 (one 2-point vote)
5. Birdland - 5 (no 2-point votes)

6. Blinding Lights - 4 (one 3-point vote)
7. The Alien - 4 (no 3-point votes, two 2-point votes)
8. Letting the Cables Sleep (the N.O.W. Remix) - 4 (one 2-point vote)
9. Slow Ride - 3 (R2 last year)
10. Killer - 3 (new this year)

GROUP 4
1. Roxanne - 20
2. Holiday in Cambodia - 10
3. Gloria In Excelsis Deo - 9
4. Rubberband Man - 7
5. Eleanor Rigby - 6

6. In My Head - 3 (one 3-point vote, random chance)
7. Heartsick Lullaby - 3 (one 3-point vote, random chance)
8. Boomer Sooner - 3 (one 3-point vote, random chance)
9. Black Diamond - 3 (no 3-point votes)
10. Boom Clap - 2

A lot of final round songs in past TMT20s have not gotten 20 points. This is a testament to the great uptick in participation this year, and the fact that Roxanne got twice as many points as second place.

Eleanor Rigby is the first song to advance without any 3-point votes. Meanwhile, three songs with a 3-point vote in Group 4 were eliminated (only two such songs were eliminated in Groups 1-3).

Round 1 of the Talossan Music Top 20 - 2022!

Many thanks to everyone who nominated songs. Of course, people who did not are still very welcome to participate.

Round 1 consists of ten groups of ten songs each. The top five songs in each group advance to Round 2 (and are given entry into next year's TMT20).

Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains one 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th place song from a Round 2 group last year, 4-5 new nominations, and 0-1 songs eliminated by random chance in Round 1 last year.

We will vote on groups two at a time (although you can vote on only one of the groups if you want). Each voting period will last three days (72 hours). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.

Give your top three songs 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively. You must give points to exactly three songs.

GROUP 5
Alvin and the Chipmunks - Walk Like an Egyptian
Bee Gees - How Deep is Your Love
CHVRCHES ft. Robert Smith - How Not to Drown
Falco - Der Kommissar
Frank Sinatra - My Way
Frank Sinatra - Blue Moon
Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.
Luther Vandross - Superstar
Paramore - Still Into You
Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill

GROUP 6
Amadou & Mariam (feat. Manu Chao) - Sénégal Fast Food
Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead Or Alive
Ennio Morricone - Man with a Harmonica
Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
Jason Boland and the Stragglers - Devil Pays In Gold
Leonard Cohen - Everybody Knows
Matia Bazar - Elettrochoc
Sleaford Mods (feat. Billy Nomates) - Mork n Mindy
Smiths - How Soon Is Now?
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Requiem Mass in D minor

Tiebreakers:
- Number of voters giving 3 points
- Number of voters giving 2 points
- Last year's result (Round 2 > other)
- Random chance

Any song eliminated by random chance (and any song eliminated by random chance last year that is eliminated based on last year's result) will be given entry into next year's TMT20.

Tactical voting refers to either giving more points than you normally would to a song because it would make the difference between it going through or getting eliminated, or giving fewer points than you normally would to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be to not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

I did my best with all the links but there is always a chance some are broken or have a wrong version or bad audio quality. If a link is broken or you have a suggestion for a better link, please contact me or post the link in the thread. Officially, we are not voting on the YouTube link, but on the listed Artist + Title.

COMMENTARY ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GAME, THE RULES, WHAT SONGS YOU LIKE, ETC., IS VERY WELCOME.

According to the nominator:

(This group is technically Alvin and the Chipmunks)

but yeah, definitely not the Bangles.
Director of Money Laundering and Sportswashing, Banqeu da Cézembre

Glüc

Also for Sleaford Mods one, Mork n Mindy is probably the name of the song and Sleaford Mods (feat. Billy Nomates) the artist.

In group 5 Im a bit sad I don't have points left for Falco. That is nothing compared to group 6 however. Strongest group so far. 8 songs really deserve points. That includes two new discoveries. As weird as it is I kinda like Mork and Mindy. Everybody Knows is my favourite discovery so far this year though, and it would be surprising if that still changed before the end of this round. It's hilariously dark. Mozart also deserves points obviously, as the Requiem is one of the most beautiful pieces ever composed, but on the other hand, I still think it would be better if parts of it were nominated separately. That still leaves an impossible choice. In particular the 1 point could easily have been replaced with one of the others if I were in a different mood.

5:
Feel Good Inc. - 3
Solsbury Hill - 2
How Not to Drown - 1

6:

We should give Still Into You status as a patriotic song, given its connection to the Organic Law. Make me your first preference for Seneschal and you might get a PD to that effect.

A bit late perhaps, but is it still possible to replace the video for How Soon Is Now with this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PIi1LWkfDE

I just realised there are some bits missing from the other one.
