Quote from: Gay Kelly via email, 5 minutes agoGood morning,

I write with great sadness to let you know that my husband, Ian Kelly died on the 22nd June.  I'm not sure if you knew him well, but your name is with a book  found on his desk.  He was very frail, but managed to be a cheerful positive chap until the end of April when his health deteriorated and he lost his sparkle.  His family are all devastated, but are comforted by his not suffering pain or distress at the end.

At times like these there are people known to the deceased but not to those closest to them...I just thought you'd want to know that he will no longer be in touch, but if you feel you'd like to contact me about anything at all, I would be happy to reply.

Best regards,

Gay Kelly

Ián Tamorán PRESINT!

Quote from: Ián Tamorán S.H. on January 11, 2024, 06:23:18 AMWhen I die I want to still be a Talossan.  So clearly I must interact sufficiently with the realm – still be in contact with it.

But the words "When I die I still want to be a Talossan" have another, deeper, meaning.  When I have died I still want to be a Talossan, even though I cannot then interact with it.  Outside of Talossa I am also a citizen of Ireland.  When I die I shall be a "deceased citizen of Ireland" – my Irishness is not taken away from me at my death, I will still be Irish.  Many, many realms on Earth are like that – death does not change your nationality.  Why cannot Talossa be like that too?

Yes – I have heard various off the cuff statements about our already having degrees of citizenship – so get on with it Ian, and stop complaining.  What already exists cannot be changed.  So there.

But wait – we already honour our citizens with marks of status, and labels of quality of achievement in this or that.  Why not also bestow upon a deceased citizen a formal title like "LDT" (Loyal Deceased Talossan) or "HIT" (Honoured In Talossa) – it's up to someone who knows our language in detail to produce the right term, the right letters.  And someone who is "HIT" (or whatever we choose) will no longer be obligated to respond to a census or vote at an election – that will not (cannot!) be counted against him or her.

Come on, lads and lasses – let's discuss this and create legislation to implement it.

King Txec

I am very saddened by this news. He was an inspiration to me. Both Chelli and I send our condolences to his family.

TXEC R, by the Grace of God, King of Talossa and of all its Realms and Regions, King of Cézembre, Sovereign Lord and Protector of Pengöpäts and the New Falklands, Defender of the Faith, Leader of the Armed Forces, Viceroy of Hoxha and Vicar of Atatürk

Rest in peace, Ián.
I am sharing this video of him reading his poem, Avancamantisch, as Ián was most recent winner of the El Pretz Per Tomas poetry prize. What a wonderful voice of artful wisdom.

I will certainly support any effort to establish a new citizenship type honoring deceased Talossans.

I just noticed the date of death. Cxhn. Tamorán voted in the Cosă election in literally the last week of his life. That's Talossan patriotism. Zog salute.

Ian was a great Talossan, and although it was not frequent, I always enjoyed interacting with him. He will be missed.

I'd be more than happy to sign my name to legislation implementing honours for deceased Talossans, starting first with Ian.

I suggest that the status for Talossans who have moved on to the next place should be something like Presint Eternalmint (Present Eternally), with reference not only how we vote when we are not participating but still want to be counted, but to this custom:

QuotePresente means present in Spanish. To refer to a deceased person as presente means that they are still a part of the living, and will remain in their hearts and minds of those who mourn them.

The basic solution should be: if you stop voting in elections and responding to censuses, you are no longer "deemed to renounce" but you go on an Inactive Citizens list. And a subset of that list whose deaths are confirmed will be "els Presints Eternalmint". We might start creating a list like that: Xhorxh Asmour, John Eiffler, even King Robert II Dobberpuhl.

Rest in peace. I kept thinking about his approach to the eternal citizenship. I know we will get there. Thank you for sharing.

It seems fitting, in a bittersweet sort of way, that the person who proposed a separate category for deceased Talossans could be one of the first so categorized.
