Round 1 of the Talossan Music Top 20 - 2020!

Many thanks to everyone who nominated songs. Of course people who did not so are still very welcome to participate

Still haven't figured out what the ideal time for voting is. Unless anyone has any convincing arguments for why it should be longer/shorter, let's do 3 days per 2 groups.

Before we start, a quick note on tactical voting
Tactical voting in this case refers to either giving more points than you would normally have to a song because it would make the difference between going through or getting eliminated OR giving fewer points than you would normally have to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be: do not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

So now to the fun part:

ROUND 1: Ten groups total. Two groups simultaneously. 10 songs per group*. Best 5 go through to the next round.

GIVE 3,2,1 points!
Voting will take 72 hours (3 days). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.
You must give points to no more/less than 3 songs per group.
You may vote on one or both groups.

GROUP 1
Aerosmith - Dream On
Amenra - A Solitary Reign
Archive - Controlling Crowds
Billy Idol - Whiskey and Pills
Blue Öyster Cult - Burnin' For You
Def Leppard - Photograph
Foghat - Slow Ride
Frank Sinatra - My Way
Kumari V Shivapriya & Vidwan B R Somashekar Jois - Konnakkol Duet
Tom Waits - God's Away on Business

GROUP 2
Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
Coolio (feat. L.V.) - Gangsta's Paradise
Elle King - Shame
Fleetwood Mac - Big Love
Mary O'Hara - Farewell, But Whenever
Portugal. The Man - Live in the Moment
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
The Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
U.K. Subs - Sensitive Boys
William Clark Green - Ringling Road

Tiebreakers:
- nr of voters giving 3 points
- nr of voters giving 2 points
- Last year's result (round 2 > other)
- random chance

COMMENTARY ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GAME, THE RULES, WHAT SONGS YOU LIKE, ETC, IS VERY WELCOME.

I will soon include the excel file containing all the groups, Anyone is allowed to post the new groups when the deadline for the previous groups has lapsed. Just copy paste two groups from the column with the pre-made witt links.

I do my best with all the links but there's always a chance some are broken or a wrong version or bad audio quality. If a link is broken or you have a suggestion for a better link, please contact me or post the link in the thread.

People who didn't get around to nominating are also very much encouraged to participate during the voting rounds.

If someone wants to make a spotify list of all round 1 songs, they'd be very welcome to.

* Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains one 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th place each from last year's second round in addition to 4 or 5 new nominations and 0 or 1 special tmt songs or songs eliminated by random chance in round last year
* Officially we are NOT voting on the youtube/spotify link, but on the listed Artist + Title.

Group 1

Controlling Crowds - 3
A Solitary Reign - 2
Dream On - 1

I will admit that I can imagine sitting through 9 minutes of Amenra followed by 10 minutes of Archive (though obviously different genres) might be a rough start to the tmt for people with a different musical taste than me.

Group 2

Paranoid Android - 3
Power Out - 2
Gangsta's Paradise - 1

Strong group. Lots of songs I wanted to give points to, but couldn't, including Holiday in Cambodia

Group 2:

3 – U.K. Subs, 'Sensitive Boys'
