Quote from: Sir Ian Plätschisch on Today at 04:59:35 PMSerious question, what would be the benefit of Reddit-style moderation

On Reddit, when comments receive a certain level of downvotes they are hidden. I may be mistaken but moderators also have the ability to remove bad actors from the channel. Downvotes would be a community-based way for moderators to base their decisions when also citing the violations of community rules in our case Wittiquette or the soon-to-be developed new standards.

The automated hiding and data-driven way to identify serial offenders seemed like a benefit to me.

Wittenberg / Wittenberg Plans

Something I've been wondering about since we've been discussing moderation. We are in the fifth or sixth year of using our latest version of a messaging board. Are there any plans for the major revamping of Wittenberg to update its capabilities? Perhaps with public consultation?

In past discussions, iirc, there was an idea to implement a Reddit-style moderation approach, which I personally like, but regardless of whether folks broadly agree on that approach, it is just an example of things outside the capabilities of our current platform.

If cost is the limiting factor, I am sure I'm one of several willing to engage in a voluntary taxation scheme.

Quote from: Istefan Perþonest on Today at 12:42:18 PMUm, did someone delete the Courthouse sub-board on Witt? I can't find it, and looking at my past messages my posts to it are missing.

It's an SMF glitch following the moving-around of boards I did earlier today, made all the worse by the fact I could still see the board (and others I moved) so I didn't know other people couldn't. Thankfully opening and closing the board's settings should have fixed it.

Luc made some Witt changes and this might be a small hiccup. Hopefully it is just a visibility issue like the other boards.

I think the Courthouse board got nuked. At least I can't see it or my past posts to it. That was kinda important.

Quote from: Breneir Tzaracomprada on May 03, 2024, 03:05:04 PMIt is my pleasure to announce the honoree for the 3rd El Pretz Per Tomas Poetry Prize. But first please allow me to thank @owenedwards the originator of this prize.

@Ián Tamorán S.H. is the winner of the 3rd El Pretz Per Tomas Prize for his poem, Avançamantisch! I want to also extend my thanks for the honor and pleasure of reading your work at length, Ian, especially a first look at the magnificant forthcoming volume, Poesie. The winning poem is a part of the forthcoming volume and I am told it will be available in the near future if you, like me, wish to enjoy more and support his great work.

OFFICIAL CITATION: Ián Tamorán S.H. (Avançamantisch)

Avançamantisch

"And did those feet in ancient times" walk on
Valorious, wander hill and mountain, take
Amazing leaps by boulders, gazing on
New vistas, in the freezing blizzard shake?
Cold clamb'ring down to shelter, safe and warm,
And further down, to sit by glowing fire,
Mild neighbours, family in their friendly form
Around you? Did you then no more aspire
In courage to ascend the hills once more?
Nor seek the danger of the open view?
True trembling lies at Revelation's core,
Standing in danger stark to see the new.
Courage or captive – you can make the choice
How from this moment we will hear your voice.

Ian reads the poem in our official announcement video here:

In writing a post for the Landing Pier it brought me to the Late Sir Ian's poetry. I thought it would be nice to bring it forward for others to enjoy his actual and artistic voice.
