TMT20 ROUND 2 - GROUPS 1 AND 2

Round 2 consists of ten groups of ten songs each. The top five songs in each group advance to Round 3.

Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains one 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place song from Round 1, 2-3 songs eliminated in Round 3 last year, 0-1 songs eliminated in Round 4 last year, 1 song ranked between 11-20 last year, and 1 song ranked between 1-10 last year.

We will vote on groups two at a time (although you can vote on only one of the groups if you want). Each voting period will last three days (72 hours). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.

Give your top four songs 4, 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively. You must give points to exactly three or four songs (awarding the 1-point vote is optional).

GROUP 1
Aerosmith - Dream On
Alan Parsons Project - Sirius/Eye In The Sky
Antonio Vivaldi - Gloria In Excelsis Deo
Charlie Parker - Cool Blues
Devo - Freedom of Choice
Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing
Jefferson Starship - Jane
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score
Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
Tom Waits - God's Away on Business

GROUP 2
Beatles - Let it Be
Bee Gees - How Deep is Your Love
Crosby, Stills and Nash - Southern Cross
Looking Glass - Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)
Marty Robbins - Big Iron
Queen - Innuendo
Rammstein - Haifisch
Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
Simon and Garfunkel - The Sound of Silence
Supertramp - School

Tiebreakers:
- Number of voters giving 4 points
- Number of voters giving 3 points
- Number of voters giving 2 points
- Last year's result (1 > 2 > ... > 20 > Round 4 > Round 3 > Round 2 > other)
- PPV in Round 1 (if applicable)
- Random chance

Tactical voting refers to either giving more points than you normally would to a song because it would make the difference between it going through or getting eliminated, or giving fewer points than you normally would to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be to not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

I did my best with all the links but there is always a chance some are broken or have a wrong version or bad audio quality. If a link is broken or you have a suggestion for a better link, please contact me or post the link in the thread. Officially, we are not voting on the YouTube link, but on the listed Artist + Title.

COMMENTARY ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GAME, THE RULES, WHAT SONGS YOU LIKE, ETC., IS VERY WELCOME.

Somehow this video gives an annoying click in my headphones. Don't remember that from last year. Maybe it could be replaced with this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2rSsyslIig

Supertramp - School

Supertramp really does not want their stuff on youtube apparently, because the new link has already been taken down. Maybe this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7R_gflT8tg

GROUP 1 - Not a bad lineup of songs but luckily four stood out personally.
4. Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing
3. Alan Parsons Project - Sirius/Eye In The Sky
2. Antonio Vivaldi - Gloria In Excelsis Deo

GROUP 2 - Lots of tough choices sadly. No votes left for Bee Gees or Big Iron, and considering I already voted for Let it Be in R1 I evidently didn't mind giving points to that either.

2. Rammstein - Haifisch
1. Simon and Garfunkel - The Sound of Silence

Bit of a drop in turnout...

Only 7 voters for that last one. Maybe it's because of round 2..., but then again voting should probably be less effort because most voters will already know more songs in advance. Hopefully its only a temporary dip.

Voting on Groups 1 and 2 is closed.

GROUP 1
1. Sultans Of Swing - 16
2. Sirius/Eye In The Sky - 8 (two 3-point votes)
3. Dream On - 8 (one 3-point votes)
4. Black Hole Sun - 6 (one 4-point vote, one 2-point vote, R3 last year)
5. Freedom of Choice - 6 (one 4-point vote, one 2-point vote, new this year)

6. Jane - 6 (one 4-point vote, no 2-point votes)
7. Cool Blues - 6 (no 4-point votes, two 3-point votes)
8. Gloria In Excelsis Deo - 6 (no 4-point votes, no 3-point votes)
9. Ghost Love Score - 4 (R3 last year)
10. God's Away on Business - 4 (R2 last year)

Last year's winner easily makes it through, doubling up the second-place song. Many of the others are caught in a logjam at six points, in which Jane (the other defending Top 20 song in the group) is narrowly eliminated.

GROUP 2
1. Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) - 12
2. Gimme Shelter - 11
3. The Sound of Silence - 10
4. Haifisch - 9
5. Innuendo - 7

6. How Deep is Your Love - 6
7. Southern Cross - 5
8. Let it Be - 4 (R2 last year)
9. Big Iron - 4 (R1 last year)
10. School - 2

Remarkably few tiebreakers in this group.

Oof, group 3 is so strong! Gonna have to leave some really nice picks pointless. (Group 4 relatively weak overall imho)
