Advance warning that I will be traveling from Wednesday through Monday without my laptop. I will still be around (via my phone) to close the voting Wednesday night (and do other Witt things), but the results and next group will be delayed until I get back.

So I guess that means we should be seeing the next ones pretty soon...

I will post this tonight or tomorrow

Looks like my 12 pts from last years finals have been eliminated in group 8. Disappointing, because its such a creative song and the live performance is legendary. That said, I'm happy Paranoid Android did make it. Should it make the final next it would be a more than worthy replacement.

TMT20 ROUND 2 - GROUPS 7 AND 8

Round 2 consists of ten groups of ten songs each. The top five songs in each group advance to Round 3.

Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains one 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place song from Round 1, 2-3 songs eliminated in Round 3 last year, 0-1 songs eliminated in Round 4 last year, 1 song ranked between 11-20 last year, and 1 song ranked between 1-10 last year.

We will vote on groups two at a time (although you can vote on only one of the groups if you want). Each voting period will last three days (72 hours). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.

Give your top four songs 4, 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively. You must give points to exactly three or four songs (awarding the 1-point vote is optional).

GROUP 9
Beatles - Eleanor Rigby
Bob Segar - Old Time Rock and Roll
Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead Or Alive
Dropkick Murphys - I'm Shipping Up To Boston
Eagles - Lyin' Eyes
Gaelic Storm - Rum Runners
Grimethorpe Colliery Band - Adagio (Concierto De Aranjuez)
Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out)
Sarah Jarosz - Run Away

GROUP 10
Blur - The Universal
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - Ohio
Ennio Morricone - Man with a Harmonica
Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
Pearl Jam - Rearviewmirror
Queen - Killer Queen
Reckless Kelly - Seven Nights in Eire
The Who - Baba O'Riley

Tiebreakers:
- Number of voters giving 4 points
- Number of voters giving 3 points
- Number of voters giving 2 points
- Last year's result (1 > 2 > ... > 20 > Round 4 > Round 3 > Round 2 > other)
- PPV in Round 1 (if applicable)
- Random chance

Tactical voting refers to either giving more points than you normally would to a song because it would make the difference between it going through or getting eliminated, or giving fewer points than you normally would to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be to not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

I did my best with all the links but there is always a chance some are broken or have a wrong version or bad audio quality. If a link is broken or you have a suggestion for a better link, please contact me or post the link in the thread. Officially, we are not voting on the YouTube link, but on the listed Artist + Title.

COMMENTARY ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GAME, THE RULES, WHAT SONGS YOU LIKE, ETC., IS VERY WELCOME.

The Chain and Rearviewmirror are somewhat similar in a way, starting off nice, although somewhat monotonous, then taking a long time to build up tension and then finally a short breather followed by an epic and very satisfying finale. Of course, the lyrical conclusions are completely opposite. In the chain the realisation is that despite whatever relationship issues the band may have had they are still bound together, whereas in Rearviewmirror the relationship being described was so toxic that leaving it all behind is the only healthy thing to do. I love how as Eddie Vedder sings he saw things clearer, the structure and point of the song also becomes clear to the listener and of course the reeaarvieewmirrrooooooor is so powerful and satisfying.
