TMT20 ROUND 3

Round 3 consists of five groups of ten songs each. The top five songs from each group advance according to the flowchart above. Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains two 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place songs from Round 2.

We will vote on groups 1, 2, and 3 and then groups 4 and 5. Each voting period will last three days (72 hours). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.

Give your top four songs 4, 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively. You must give points to exactly three or four songs (awarding the 1-point vote is optional).

GROUP 4
David Bowie - Starman
Earth, Wind and Fire - September
Editors - Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Nickelback - How You Remind Me

Tiebreakers:
- Number of voters giving 4 points
- Number of voters giving 3 points
- Number of voters giving 2 points
- PPV in Round 2
- Last year's result (1 > 2 > ... > 20 > Round 4 > Round 3 > Round 2 > other)
- PPV in Round 1 (if applicable)
- Random chance

Tactical voting refers to either giving more points than you normally would to a song because it would make the difference between it going through or getting eliminated, or giving fewer points than you normally would to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be to not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

I did my best with all the links but there is always a chance some are broken or have a wrong version or bad audio quality. If a link is broken or you have a suggestion for a better link, please contact me or post the link in the thread. Officially, we are not voting on the YouTube link, but on the listed Artist + Title.

COMMENTARY ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GAME, THE RULES, WHAT SONGS YOU LIKE, ETC., IS VERY WELCOME.

As expected, two more really strong groups where some obvious top 20 worthy songs will have to do with 2 points or in group 3 even 1 point. I just really hope at least one 4 pointer makes it to the final this time.

The difference between #1 and #6 in each group was always at least 8 points, except in Group 1, where it was only 3 points.

Three of the eight new nominations that made it to Round 3 (Enjoy the Silence, Wish You Were Here, and How Soon is Now) are now guaranteed a spot in the Top 20. The rest were eliminated. Last year, all three of the new nominations in Round 3 were eliminated, although two of those three (Blue Monday and Der Kommissar) have now advanced this year.

Six of last year's Top 20 were eliminated in Round 3, including last year's #3 (The Chain) and #4 (On the River).

Seven of the 22 songs on the Virtual Top 20 by Round 2 PPV were eliminated. The most popular Round 2 songs to be eliminated were The Chain and Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors (both with 1.75 PPV in R2 but less than 1.00 PPV in R3).
