Quote from: þerxh Sant-Enogat on August 24, 2025, 02:10:36 PMThanks to my friend Bråneu for a very tense but fun game, ending in a headless-chicken-run draw !
We shifted to chess.com as lichess said "We're temporarily back but might have to be offline soon, sorry!"

Cézembre / Re: Kingdom of Cézembre ?

I have referenced the Kingdom of Cézembre in past posts (some deemed seditious) but perhaps the current discussion of regalia can offer an opportunity.

þerxh, the next time you visit our fair isle perhaps you can pick up a stone roughly the size of a lemon?  We could then fashion a holder for it and present it to the King as the official scepter or holy hand grenade or some other flowey description to join the regalia, and encourage other entities within Talossa to do so as well.

Wittenberg / Re: [Royal] Royal Regalia

Quote from: Istefan Perþonest on July 30, 2025, 07:48:32 AMThe whole symbolism of the sash as part of the Royal Regalia is to honor modern Talossa's substantial inheritance from the Republic. It should be left as-is.

Talossa's provinces are . . . well. The provinces, by and large, have been nominal. There have been brief periods of actual local activity in some of them (Fiova for a while after Reunison comes to mind), but as a group, most of the time, they're just a potential hook that isn't being used. And while they don't get created/destroyed/re-symbol-ized at a blistering pace, they do change often enough that I expect that if incorporated into a bit of national regalia, said item of regalia would spend most of its time out-of-date.

Fair enough - in light of this and other discussion it is perhaps high time for each province to discuss what they may wish to add to the regalia.  Hmm, perhaps the Holy Hand grenade of Cézembre...

Quote from: Mic'haglh Autófil, O.Be on July 29, 2025, 11:09:48 AMIf it were the sash of the Kingdom, perhaps.

If worn by a King or Queen that would be appropriate.

Perhaps an update to the sash is in order to evoke the symbols of each province (and perhaps territories) rather than just that of Fiovă and other.previous entities.

L'Óspileu/The Chat Room / Re: Talossan Book Club
July 28, 2025, 05:25:08 PM
I will take part.  Perhaps after this first go-round then during the next book selection. I will ask someone that I would like to consider becoming a Talossa citizen to participate in a similar exercise to build initial rapport.

I will get a dead tree version from the library.

Your Majesty, perhaps you can suggest a book by August 1st that all who may be interested in discussing would complete before September 30, perhaps with ongoing discussions starting each fortnight or so (Aug 15, Sep 1, Sep 15) of subsequent quarters of the book?

Quote from: Antaglha Xhenerös Somelieir on July 15, 2025, 05:20:16 PMAnd again you miss the entire point,

Ok so let me ask again, what is the draw for people to become a Talossan and stick around?

A personal connection is a starting point.

While it's all well and good to encourage the stumbling upon or random connections of the web, my belief is that the people you already know -- who may have not been asked to join our nation -- are good candidates.  The discussions you may have with others about media, science, games, art, sports, history, or culture may be enhanced but having them take place within these forums.  The typical social media doomscrolling could be replaced or perhaps mirrored with better nuance and depth within a discussion topic on Wittenberg.  I personally stay off a certain well known platform on Mondays and Fridays and might increase the days that I don't touch it

And new connections may be made where they were not before - thinking of some of the most popular non-political discussions such as the TMT, various sports fantasy leagues, cookbooks, the chess tournament, etc.   Many indeed might be confused by political posturing and long term differences of opinion, but could offer insightful commentary about a recent film or book they encountered.

On the latter topic - and I can't recall if this has been done previously - would be to have a book of the season or cosa etc. declared by the Monarch as being of significance and encouraging citizens and non citizens to read (or reread) same.  Could be a classic or something hot off the press.  By asking one's acquaintances if they have read or were interested in reading said book then that would be an initial connection for a discussion area on Wittenberg.  I'm sure there's lots of other ideas like this to have a calm and interesting introduction for new citizens.

Quote from: Baron Alexandreu Davinescu on July 02, 2025, 07:43:14 PMWittenberg is an amazing tool that works really well, and I am very grateful to our hardworking tech folks who have made it possible.  (Do I remember right that Etho set it up?)

I don't know what I would want it to do that it doesn't already do.

The old proboards still exists for the time being and there were efforts to archive the info going on at one point as a backup.  Should there be the opportunity either here or in future Witt versions to merge that info it would be wonderful.  Also the somewhat shorter term social media platform.

That said, after the switch a certain number of previous users decided not to learn a new interface and have have not landed here even after a number of years - perhaps some are using the discord or other systems but many just only are contactable by email.

Cézembre / CZ immigration
July 18, 2025, 11:26:12 PM
Given the discussions going on at the level of the realm regarding immigration, perhaps we can as a province discuss how we can increase our numbers within our catchment area

as per https://wiki.talossa.com/Law:El_Lexhatx#E._Immigration

7.10. CÉZEMBRE PROVINCE. Talossan citizens living in the following areas shall be assigned to Cézembre Province: the nations of Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.

Cézembre / Sub boards?
July 18, 2025, 11:21:38 PM
We used to have subordinate boards to the main one here- am I just not seeing that on my phone or have those discussions been filled up into the main board?

I personally have been unsuccessful in what I think would be the most effective way to increase the number of Talossans. Perhaps I need some assistance with an elevator pitch or a better way of using the wiki or other resources to inform those I think would have interest.

The simple idea is "+1"

Each citizen would endeavor to identify one person that they already know from other spheres of activity, that they believe would have interest in becoming an active citizen.

I think if we had at least a third of our current citizens make this attempt, and if a third of those influenced by a specific person they know became active citizens by the end of calendar year 2025, that would constitute significant growth.

Certainly there be no restriction on others who stumble upon or otherwise land on the pier, and they should be supported as much as possible.  However, a personal connection to people through other hobbies, interests, education, work, etc. has potential.

Your Majesty, thank you for the opportunity to discuss the matter of Immigration.

I am thinking back as to how I became a citizen nearly two decades ago.  The initial connection was via the game of Diplomacy and how I met some Talossans that were involved in that hobby.  In fact in a couple of weeks I will be face to face with some of those same citizens at the ARMADA Regatta.  One might argue that competition is akin to short term role playing, and my son has defined my involvement in Talossa as a similar adventure in long form.

Certainly there are many outstanding citizens of Talossa that stumbled upon our fair realm via a mention in a news story or through random surfing.  However, there may be opportunities amongst the life connections of all citizens to create a niche of special interest groups within our lands as a mutual benefit for both Talossa and those SIGs.

I yield the floor.
