Sir Lüc

GROUP 1 - First 🚨STACK ALERT🚨 of this year's TMT20 (credits to Glüc though, he called it first and I don't know why I initially disagreed, I guess I was sleepy...) and I already know I'm not going to like the results
3. David Bowie - Starman
2. Grimethorpe Colliery Band - Adagio (Concierto De Aranjuez)
1. ABBA - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)

BPs galore to: The Sound of Silence, Light Of The Seven and Fanfare for the Common Man (and some of the others were nice too)

GROUP 2 - if a group is a stack, the other has to be rather underwhelming I guess...
3. Panic! At The Disco - High Hopes
2. Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started
1. Beatles - Let it Be

BP: Green Onions I guess? How does this song keep surviving?

Round 1 of the Talossan Music Top 20 - 2022!

Many thanks to everyone who nominated songs. Of course, people who did not are still very welcome to participate.

Round 1 consists of ten groups of ten songs each. The top five songs in each group advance to Round 2 (and are given entry into next year's TMT20).

Groups are drawn randomly in such a way that each group contains one 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th place song from a Round 2 group last year, 4-5 new nominations, and 0-1 songs eliminated by random chance in Round 1 last year.

We will vote on groups two at a time (although you can vote on only one of the groups if you want). Each voting period will last three days (72 hours). Votes cast after that will not be accepted, with the exception that we will always keep going until we have at least three votes per group.

Give your top three songs 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively. You must give points to exactly three songs.

GROUP 3
Bush - Letting the Cables Sleep (the N.O.W. Remix)
CHVRCHES - Killer
Foghat - Slow Ride
Foo Fighters - Everlong
Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
Manchester Orchestra - The Alien
Manhattan Transfer - Birdland
Nickelback - How You Remind Me
Stromae - Santé
The Weeknd - Blinding Lights

GROUP 4
After the Dust - Heartsick Lullaby
Antonio Vivaldi - Gloria In Excelsis Deo
Beatles - Eleanor Rigby
Charli XCX - Boom Clap
Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
KISS - Black Diamond
Lights ft. Josh Dun - In My Head
Police - Roxanne
Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band - Boomer Sooner
Spinners - Rubberband Man

Tiebreakers:
- Number of voters giving 3 points
- Number of voters giving 2 points
- Last year's result (Round 2 > other)
- Random chance

Any song eliminated by random chance (and any song eliminated by random chance last year that is eliminated based on last year's result) will be given entry into next year's TMT20.

Tactical voting refers to either giving more points than you normally would to a song because it would make the difference between it going through or getting eliminated, or giving fewer points than you normally would to a song because it might kick a song you like even more out of the competition. This is hard to prevent, but my very strong request would be to not do it. Give points to the songs you believe deserve to go through, regardless of how others are voting. Doing otherwise reduces the value of votes that came before you, which is unfair to them. Remember that it's not a competition between voters, but a collective effort to make a nice list of songs we like. Thanks.

I did my best with all the links but there is always a chance some are broken or have a wrong version or bad audio quality. If a link is broken or you have a suggestion for a better link, please contact me or post the link in the thread. Officially, we are not voting on the YouTube link, but on the listed Artist + Title.

COMMENTARY ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GAME, THE RULES, WHAT SONGS YOU LIKE, ETC., IS VERY WELCOME.

Green Onions has been in every TMT20 since the beginning (including the 2009 and 2013 editions, before the contest became annual in 2015). It's a bit sad to see it go.

BP: Green Onions I guess? How does this song keep surviving?

"Any song eliminated by random chance (and any song eliminated by random chance last year that is eliminated based on last year's result) will be given entry into next year's TMT20."

Thus being eliminated in a tie for random chance this year I think it will be back next year.  I think it got further before.

Green Onions was eliminated by the three-point votes tiebreaker, not random chance, so it won't be back next year.

Group 3 is reasonably strong. Santé is my favourite 2021 release. Love the message of the song, but mostly love the slightly weird rhythm and the synth melody. The Colour and the Shape was the first CD I ever bought so definitely some nostalgic feelings towards Everlong, but in the end it just misses out on the last point. With regards to Chvrches it is kinda unfortunate that Ian and I both like the band but never seem to agree on what tracks to pick. This one is alright imho, but not good enough for points sadly. I'm not too fond of the way the vocal pitch correction thingy in the chorus was executed. As for Nickelback, I appreciate that it was nominated anyway after being retracted due to negative comments. Nobody should ever be bullied out of liking a song.

Group 4 is kinda meh for me. The three songs that get points are all very good, though not neccesarily in all time personal favourite territory. Same goes for Rubberband Man, which just misses out. Very pleased to see the return of Roxanne.

Still worried we could still potentially get some ridiculously stacked round 1 group this year.
