I would veto any bill that required me to grant any title of nobility to anyone. The granting of honors is a royal perogative. Even if Ben were to return, he will not receive any honors just because of who he once was.

An interesting development on Independence Day.

No worries. I mistakenly said it was the 47th anniversary in my recorded speech. Everyone makes a mistake now and then.

Wittenberg / [Royal] Independence Day Speech
Yesterday at 10:58:20 AM

Independence Day Speech from the Throne

We, TXEC by the Grace of God King of Talossa and of all its Realms and Regions, King of Cézembre, Sovereign Lord and Protector of Pengöpäts and the New Falklands, Defender of the Faith, Leader of the Armed Forces, Viceroy of Hoxha and Vicar of Atatürk, Azul àd ár citaxhiens es cestours:

Today marks the 46th anniversary of our Kingdom's founding. Nearly half a century ago, Robert Madison dreamed an impossible dream that became a living reality. The Kingdom of Talossa may have begun as a 'silly notion' in a Milwaukee bedroom, and perhaps in some ways it still is—but it has thrived, evolved, and matured into a resilient nation.

The past year has tested us, yet it has also been a season of remarkable growth. We have welcomed new citizens into our fold, conducted two general elections, and faced internal strife with a steadfastness that defines us. We Talossans are a unique people: resilient, idealistic, and always carrying a necessary touch of the magical.

Last Independence Day, I proposed two themes for our year: Community and Partnership. Looking back, I see those themes in action despite the miles between us. Whether through the TMT special edition, the Fantasy Hockey League, or our 'Coffee With the King' sessions, we have found joy in simply being together. Partnership was equally evident in our leaders, who chose to do what was required rather than what was easy during our most serious moments. While election seasons often bring incivility, I remain hopeful that this new government will rise to its own high standards while honoring the foundations laid by previous administrations. Our democracy is strong; it is our shared duty to keep it so.

Because of this, I am renewing our commitment to Community and Partnership for the coming year. While we rallied as a people, we also recognized that pockets of distrust remain. Talossa has the opportunity to rise above the fray and prove to the world that our 46-year experiment is not just surviving, but thriving. We must reject cruelty and demagoguery, striving instead to be what John Winthrop first envisioned and Ronald Reagan later championed: 'a shining city on a hill.'

I close today with the same words I shared last year, for their poignancy has only grown: What we have is precious. We must cherish it, foster it, and allow it to flourish. Let us work as one community to welcome new citizens, to speak and use el Glheþ as often as possible, and to weed our garden of anything that threatens our joy. We have a forty-six-year history that is rich, unique, and entirely our own. Let us honor it together.

Txec, Regeu da Talossa

It is the 46th anniversary, not the 41st.

Our Gallagher index is low owing to our voting system, correct? Essentially we award seats to parties by using their percentage of total valid votes and using that percentage to get as close as possible to dividing up the 200 seats accordingly. If I'm correct, and I admit my knowledge is scant on voting systems, then using a 200 seat Cosa achieves the will of the voter much better than perhaps reducing the size of it?

Quote from: Carlüs Éovart Vilaçafat on December 22, 2025, 08:23:42 AMI don't see how Article 1.6 of the Maricopa constitution is not a blanket ban, but I'm also no lawyer.

With that being said, I have no problem kicking the nomination of @Béneditsch Ardpresteir over to the Cabana to decide.

I thought BenArd was talking about your nomination not getting a vote. Our laws do indeed bar him from being Premieir.

Perhaps after the Living Cosa, I can send the sash to you for your wife to close up?

Wouldn't it be better if we operated our Wiki the way Wikipedia does instead of potentially criminalizing edits to TW?

I think that roles such as A-X, MinImm, MinFin, and MinFor should be a statutory minimum. There may be more, but there are several jobs that should carry the weight of Cabinet level and also be subject to Terps and the like.

Quote from: Baron Alexandreu Davinescu on December 19, 2025, 12:52:48 PMLegally, you can't be in the Cabinet and a permanent secretary at the same time.  Actually, just to be safe: this is my official request to His Majesty that they be technically dismissed from service as permanent secretaries.  And I will reinstate them in their positions with no change in terms or scope as soon as it is legally possible.

With thanks for a job well done, we hereby dismiss, at the request of the Seneschal, Danihel Txechescu and þerxh Sant-Enogat from their respective positions as permanent secretaries.

Another thing to consider is the Baron asked me because I am a member of the Royal Bar as a practicing attorney and I was also once on the Uppermost Cort and prior to that the Magistrates Cort. I'm still a lawyer, though I don't do much with it, but being legal-minded has served me well on the throne as well as my prior role as Secretary of State.

Quote from: Baron Alexandreu Davinescu on December 19, 2025, 12:54:29 PMWell, we're basically being silly since I don't think I ever issued any orders to His Majesty.  The king graciously agreed to be my deputy just in case I became unable to do the job.
If that were to happen (theoretically), who would inherit the Talossan throne?

I'm not going anywhere. If I did have to perform any duties, it would be as Deputy and would not interfere in any way with my reign.

Aren't YOU supposed to be the boss, Your Majesty?

(I don't think your reign is illegitimate, I'm just pointing out the main job of a king. If you don't want any extra power, that's perfectly fine.)

S:reu Malt,

Not long after I ascended the throne, the Baron, who was Clerk of Courts, asked me to step in as Deputy in the event that he could not fulfill the role. I agreed as there was no Organic restriction against a Monarch serving in this capacity.

I think perhaps you are missing the joke here. I really have no role and have not done anything in relation to it since I was appointed. It has nothing to do with extra power or being Head of State. What is ironic is that whomever takes over as Clerk of Courts would technically, in this VERY limited situation, be someone I reported to. It's funny - at least to me.
