I'm not a part of the government, and I'm not suggesting that the government force him into any action beyond what it has already. I'm giving a personal suggestion.

Normal people (for the non-exclusionary senses of that term) do not need a special space or group to remind them to be empathetic. It's something they do out of reflex, because they are humans.

I'm willing to admit that Breneir has done a thing to atone that required some modicum of effort and sacrifice. He may even have learned something from it.

Unfortunately, his chosen course of conduct in the 18 months preceding must weigh into the judgements we make of his character, and, as such, what I would further suggest as a much more comprehensive gesture of his wish to change for the better is for him to see a (secular!) mental health professional specializing in personality disorders.

Of course, it would be a violation of his privacy if he were to be compelled to inform anyone of a hypothetical diagnosis, but if he were diagnosed, and if he received a list of next steps the following of which led to an apparent change in his conduct and approach to others, that to me would clear him of all my misgivings about his character going forward.

I must say, I'm heavily intrigued as to what elements of the past Breneir is encouraging us to forget in his latest mailer.

I find it extremely difficult to believe that anyone here is petty enough to maliciously submit a vote on someone else's behalf. The only person I wouldn't put it past is Breneir, and he's the "victim".

I don't think it's reasonable to expect either that the offender will, in fact, know who they are, or that they will even see these posts.

So, having seen the ballot link in question (without clicking on it myself), my immediate impression was that it was presented in a way that a reasonable person who is unfamiliar with the voting system might perceive to be completely benign. I don't remember if citizens' names are shown on the ballot page after they enter their personal code, but showing someone else's name can easily be dismissed as an error, if it's noticed at all.

Meantime, I think we also need to take account of Breneir's recklessness. He should by this point be familiar with the voting system, and he sent a link he should reasonably have realized was intended for himself only to a public mailing list.

But, look, we're humans and we make mistakes, and I think the best way to handle this incident is to take whatever Organic steps are necessary to deal with the ballot directly, and then discuss what about the system could be changed to make it more resilient against this kind of human error. Luckily, a new Cosă session is starting pretty soon.

I don't think threatening prosecution is productive here.
